The artistic and scientific discoveries and movements born in the European centres of culture during the early 20th century brought about a golden age in Hungarian art.

Stuart Brisley’s body of work is as diverse as it is extraordinary.

In January 2003, utilising Ed Ruscha’s book, Royal Road Test as a readymade set of instructions, Simon Morris and 78 of his students cut out every work from Sigmund Freud’s 736 page book The Interpretation of Dreams (including the index - 333,960 words).

In much British folklore, having live birds or their representation within the home is considered to bring ill luck.

From 19th March to 27th April 2003, the Freud Museum hosted a special site-integrated version of the work of internationally renowned Canadian artist, Vera Frenkel.

From 29th January to 9th March, 2003, the Freud Museum, in association with the Goethe Institut Inter Nationes, hosted the installation by sculptor, photographer and film-maker, Asta Gröting.

As a tribute to Freud’s lifelong involvement with Russian culture the Museum, in association with Anya and Michael Stonelake of the White Space Gallery and Nana Zhvitiashvili of the State Russian Museum, organised The Russian Patient an exhibition of Contemporary Russian artists.

We were very pleased that Ralph Freeman returned to the Freud Museum, in the middle of the year, for his show, Foundations and Fragments.

When the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research was faced with urgent financial pressures, leaving it unable to go ahead with plans for a low-cost clinic, it decided upon an inspired fundraising exercise.

This exhibition was presented as part of the Austrian Cultural Forum’s visual arts programme organised by Anthony Auerbach.
