Join us for our second event in our new series of evening events at the Freud Museum titled Provocations, or Difficult Conversations in the Home of the Talking Cure. In-house only.

In tonight’s event Ann Wroe will be in conversation with the journalist Rachel Cooke on the subject of life-writing and capturing the soul.

For the last 20 years, Ann Wroe has written the Economist’s weekly obituary. In her new book, Lifescapes, a dazzling blend of memoir and biography, she reflects on this unlikely art, and the difficulties – perhaps the impossibility – of capturing a life on the page. Through the lives of those she has known both well and only fleetingly, as well as of those she has studied closely, she asks what makes a life, and what, in the end, we leave behind.

“Wroe is a genius, I believe, because she lights up every subject she touches.”     Hilary Mantel
