Join us for a season of films and lectures held in the garden of the Freud Museum!
Enjoy our series of film screenings in Sigmund Freud’s atmospheric Hampstead garden. For each of our Silent Cinema screenings, every attendee will receive headphones and a deck chair. We invite everyone to bring their own refreshments or a picnic to enjoy throughout the film.
About the film: Medea (1969) dir. Pier Paolo Pasolini
Length: 110 min
Pasolini’s Medea is a powerful adaptation of the Greek tragedy by Euripides. The film explores the complex emotions of the protagonist as she seeks revenge against her unfaithful husband. The story has some fascinating links to Freudian concepts such as the Oedipus complex, the unconscious, and the death drive.
Starring: Maria Callas, Massimo Girotti, Laurent Terzieff, Giuseppe Gentile.
Format:
- 18:30 Doors open, visit the Freud Museum, choose seats (first come, first serve)
- 19:00 Pre-film talk with Mary Wild of PROJECTIONS in conversation with Marina Maniadaki, curator of the Freud Museum’s exhibition, ‘Tracing Freud on the Acropolis‘
- 19:40 or when it gets dark, the film will begin!
You are welcome to bring:
- Food or drink to enjoy throughout the film. We will provide water/non-alcoholic drinks on site but encourage you to bring anything else you would like to consume (wine, beer, sandwiches…)
- A blanket in case it gets cold later in the evening
- Notebook and pen for making notes during the lecture before the film begins
Please note that we may reschedule the event if bad weather is forecasted. We will be in touch with you in advance.
