This conference will explore the question of illness psychoanalytically and from an interdisciplinary perspective.
It will encompass cultural preoccupations with specific illnesses or medical practices, idioms of distress, psychic representations of the body in illness, the impact of illness in analytic work, and Freud’s relationship to his own illness, as well as more contemporary themes clinically and theoretically.
Speakers come from a range of disciplines – psychoanalysis, anthropology, history and literature – with the aim to offer authoritative papers as well as to create as much openness of discussion as possible in this delicate subject.
