2018 marks the anniversary of Sigmund Freud’s encounters with two of the 20th Century’s great dreamers: the artist Salvador Dalí and Sergei Pankejeff, known as ‘The Wolfman’ in the psychoanalytic literature.
Freud met Dalí in 1938, an event which we are currently commemorating at the museum with our exhibition Freud/Dalí and the Metamorphosis of Narcissus. Twenty years earlier Freud wrote the case history of ‘The Wolfman’, who subsequently became one of the most famous patients in the history of psychoanalysis.
To help celebrate these two encounters, we will hold public tours which will explore Freud’s theory of the unconscious and his conception of dreams and wish-fulfillment, and discuss the impact of these ideas on the fields of art and human subjectivity.
Tours will take place at 2pm and 3.30pm and are free with an admission ticket on the day.
