Myths in Mind

5 August 2009 to 13 September 2009

The exhibition gave visitors the chance to see some of Freud’s most precious antiquities at closer quarters, and put them in the context of myth and legend to which they belong.

Sigmund Freud was an avid collector and surrounded himself in his study with precious objects from a variety of cultures. Like many of his contemporaries, Freud had a deep classical knowledge and the stories of many of these classical characters resonated in his own work.

Also on display is a second exhibition, Freud in His Time: Freud’s Diary Notes 1929-1939, which gives the wider context for his life, work and passion for travelling and collecting antiquities.
