“I never realized that the older one grows the more there is to do. The idea of peaceful old age seems as much of a legend as that of happy youth.”

Freud in a letter to Ernst and Lucie Freud, 20th December 1921

The Freud Museum will be joining the nation-wide celebrations of old age by offering a dedicated house tour exploring Freud’s intriguing views on the joys and sorrows of later life. Visitors will have the opportunity to see images of associated objects from the Collection, such as figures of old sages and scholars occupying prominent positions on Freud’s desk, or the original gifts he received on each of his ‘painful’ birthdays.
