Robert Aickman: 'Strange Stories'

An evening of readings and discussion with Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson

Robert Aickman is one of literature’s great cult figures whose macabre collections of ‘strange stories’ made him perhaps the twentieth century’s most admired writer of the supernatural, his fans including Stephen King and Neil Gaiman. Aickman was a life-long enthusiast of Freud, in particular his theory of ‘the uncanny’.

The Freud Museum London will commemorate the centenary of Aickman’s birth and celebrate the publication of new Faber & Faber editions of his work, with an evening of readings and discussion featuring a number of special guests including the actors/writers, Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson. The evening will be introduced by Faber editor Richard T. Kelly.

The new editions will feature illuminating new introductions from Reece Shearsmith and Richard T. Kelly (author of gothic horror novel The Possessions of Doctor Forrest), and afterwords by close friends of Aickman’s, including Ramsey Campbell, Britain’s most respected living horror novelist, and Leslie Gardner, Aickman’s literary agent. All four new editions have elegantly chilling new cover art designed by Tim McDonagh.
