Psychoanalysis After Freud

12 week evening course

This course will look at how Freud's ideas were criticised and developed by some of the most creative figures in the subsequent history of psychoanalysis - including Carl Jung, Melanie Klein, Donald Winnicott and Jacques Lacan. The focus as far as possible will be on excerpts from the most important writings of the figures discussed, explaining both how they begin from Freud, and how they change and develop his ideas.

No prior knowledge will be assumed and you will be guided by an experienced tutor with many years' teaching experience.

Tutor: Keith Barrett BA PhD
Having received his PhD from the Wellcome Centre for the History of Medicine at University College London, Dr Barrett specialises in both philosophy and psychoanalysis and has taught at several leading institutions, including Imperial College and Birkbeck College.
