Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Freud's Death

Wednesday 23 September 2009 is the 70th anniversary of Sigmund Freud’s death at his home in London.

To mark the occasion, the museum will be holding a special late opening to celebrate Freud’s life and work. Hosted by the Chair of Museum’s Trustees, Lisa Appignanesi, the event is open to everyone, and admission will be free. A bar and snacks will available, and while we won't be charging for drinks, donations would be most welcome!

During the evening guests will be able to explore the museum and discover our cutting-edge exhibition, Einfall: Beyond Spontaneity, by postgraduate students at the Royal College of Art, which runs from 16 September - 04 October.

Freud's great-granddaughter Esther Freud and actress, Diana Quick will deliver readings including Auden's poem, In Memory of Sigmund Freud.

In addition, psychoanalyst Andrea Sabbadini, Chair of the European Psychoanalytic Film Festival, will be screening film-clips of dream sequences from Pabst's Secrets of a Soul (1926), Hitchcock's Spellbound (1945) and Bergman's Wild Strawberries (1957). This will be followed by a brief discussion contextualizing the clips within Freud's theories of dream interpretation.

While there is no admission charge for this event, space is limited and booking is essential.
