Session description

“The interpretation of dreams is the royal road to a knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind.”Sigmund Freud

Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams provides a groundbreaking theory of dreams and an innovative method for interpreting them that captivates readers to this day.

Freud’s theory of dreams is also one of the best ways to grasp Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis in a practical way.

This online session will guide you through Freud’s theory of dreams. Using plenty of sample dreams, we will closely follow how Freud builds his argument that dreams are the disguised fulfilments of repressed infantile wishes.

In this session:

  • Freud’s method of interpreting dreams
  • Freud’s theory of dreams
    • Wish-fulfilment
    • Manifest and latent content
    • Dream distortion
    • The role of childhood and the unconscious
  • What Freud’s theory tells us about the mind
  • Plenty of time for discussion and debate!

Please note: this is not a dream-interpretation workshop and participants will not be able to discuss their own dreams.

Made to measure!

‘Freud and Dreams’ has been devised as an enrichment session for A Level Psychology students, but can be tailored for KS4 and HE students, either as an introduction to the case or to consolidate classroom learning.

We use a flexible format and adjust each session to the interests and abilities of each group. Let us know your requirements when you book!
