Freud in Focus 3
The Freud Museum is releasing the Third Series of our podcast ‘Freud in Focus’, presented by Tom DeRose and Jamie Ruers.
In these next 5 episodes, we will be discussing one of Freud’s most influential texts, ‘Civilisation and its Discontents’. Closely reading the text itself, we will attempt to understand why Herbert Marcuse described Civilisation and its Discontents as both ‘the most radical critique of western culture and its most trenchant defence’.
‘Freud in Focus 3: Episode 1’ will be aired on Wednesday, 16th February 2022 and a new episode will be released every other Wednesday.
You can listen to the first season of ‘Freud in Focus‘ and the second season of ‘Freud in Focus’.
Series Producer: Karolina Heller

Comments
I stumbled across this pod cast after I have just been reading and re-reading Civilization and it’s Discontents, on my drive down to see my mother for a visit. I absolutely loved the episodes and will re-listen to them while re-reading the text. This was a joy to find. I have a psychoanalytic practice in a very rural part of Vermont, in years past I have affiliated with a Study group, but since Co-Vid, that has gone solely to on line and they have, in my opinion, watered down the course material. I have been longing for a chance to dive into Freud’s text, so thank you. I also have to wonder if discovering your podcast somehow allowed me to have a pleasant visit with my mother. Please continue, I have already initiated my own study in conjunction with your episodes on The Pleasure Principle, and The Uncanny. Thank you for a much needed ray of sunshine after a long winter.
Thank you so much, Peter, for sharing this story & for your kind words! I hope we can continue to pique your interest with the podcast.
Really enjoyed listening to your podcast on Freud and his work. Thank you very much. I understand Freud and his theories a little better now!
