Volunteer

The Museum is run by a small staff with wide ranging knowledge of Freud’s life and work. It offers an exhibition and events programme, conferences, a schools and university education service, shop, website so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with different aspects of the museum.

Short and long-term volunteering
We have both short and long-term volunteers. The short-term placements are usually students or recent graduates looking to gain experience and insight into museum work. In order for the placement to be of benefit to both you and the museum, we do prefer placements to be of at least 6 weeks’ duration. We receive a lot of interest in this type of placement, so please do get in touch early.

The longer term volunteers mostly help out in the museum’s busy shop, answering the phone, advising visitors, undertaking surveys and so on.

What we offer you
All volunteers are offered induction, a written task description, a supervisor, information on museums in the UK, training for your role, travel expenses and a written reference from the Director (following an agreed minimum number of hours).
