Born in Dartford, Kent on 25 June 1932. 1949-51 studied at Gravesend School of Art. 1953-56 Studied at Royal College of Art. 1960-62 Taught at St.Martin's School. 1962 First One-Man exhibition, Portal Gallery, London. 1964-76 Taught at Royal College of Art. 1973-74 Retrospective exhibition; touring Amsterdam, Hamburg, Brussels, Arnham. 1975 Founded Brotherhood of Ruralists; exhibited at Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 1976; Arnolfini Gallery Bristol, 1981; touring to Birmingham, Glasgow, London (Camden Arts Centre). 1981 Elected R.A. 1983 Awarded C.B.E. 1994 Third associate artist of the National Gallery.
