Duncan Pickstock
The Believers

The Believers is a remarkable series of twelve ten-minute video interviews which explore notions of belief in western society. Researched and directed by Duncan Pickstock the films focus on the experiences of individuals such as peace campaigner Brian Haw that have led them to have such unflinching conviction in their beliefs. A selection of the videos will be shown, followed by discussion with the filmmaker.

Wednesday February 28th 7.00 pm
Emilia Telese
Artist's Talk and discussion

Emilia Telese is an Italian-born artist living and working in Brighton. Working in many different media, and through live performance, her work explores questions about body-image, celebrity and the rituals of personal identity. Of her project for the PARANOIA exhibition in Leeds, she writes: 'Our image-obsessed society constantly bombards us with enhanced, airbrushed photographs of perfect women. It is increasingly difficult to perceive and accept one's own appearance as 'attractive' or even 'normal''. Her performance at the opening of the exhibition in the Freud Museum addressed the question of  what it means to be 'born into a religion', and the ongoing relationship between religion and superstition. The artist will discuss her work.

All talks took place at The Freud Museum.
