Psychoanalysis and the Nature of Biography
Author's Talk - Dr. David Carter
Dr. David Carter joins us to reflect on how the nature of biographies has changed over the years, different styles and approaches, the contributions made by psychoanalysis, and the special challenges of writing a short biography.
Dr. David Carter has written a biography of Sigmund Freud for Hesperus Press in their 'Brief Lives' series and has newly translated Freud's essays on cocaine for the same publisher. Copies of the books will be available for purchase at the talk. His Ph.D. was on Freud's theories of creativity and the understanding of literature. Having been a lecturer on German Language and Culture at St. Andrews and Southampton universities in the UK, and Professor of Communicative English at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, he now works as a freelance writer, translator and journalist.
