The Freud Museum

Group visits

The Freud Museum offers facilitated visits to groups

Normal opening hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 12pm-5pm.

Visits outside normal opening hours
Groups of 10 or more can book facilitated visits outside normal opening hours (i.e. on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesday-Friday mornings). The Museum is opened specially for your group and a member of the education team will be available to talk to the group and lead a discussion about Freud and psychoanalysis.

For visits outside normal opening hours, the rates are as follows:

Students (and teachers accompanying students): £5 (minimum £50)
Adults: £8 (minimum £80)
Senior Citizens: £6 (minimum £60)

Visits during normal opening hours
Groups can also book self-led visits during normal opening hours. You will be able to see Freud's consulting room, couch, library and antiquities, and archive film of Freud and his family in Vienna and London. The 'Interpretation of Dreams' exhibition is displayed around the museum and a small exhibition about Anna Freud can be found on the first floor. You can also download worksheets and discussion topics from the website. A member of the education team can sometimes be availabe to introduce the house.

For visits during normal opening hours, groups pay the standard admission charge.

A-level groups
The Freud Museum is very popular with A-level groups, particularly those studying psychology or religious studies. The Museum's education team is familiar with the major exam boards' A-level specifications and can hold discussions that respond to the curricula while helping students to sort Freud fact from Freud fiction.

Teaching psychoanalysis at A-level can be challenging: a cursory encounter with Freud's claims often leads students to entrench themselves behind the unproductive attitude that he was simply a 'weird' man. Our education team is there to help students move beyond this conviction by exploring their concerns in a self-reflexive way, drawing on their own experiences and perspectives to think psychoanalytically.

Planning your trip
Groups should allow at least one and a half hours for their visit. Please consult the calendar below for available dates and use the online enquiry form to make your booking. There are no lunch facilities at the museum, but many cafes and restaurants nearby.

For further information please contact Ivan Ward on 020 7435 2002.

If you would like to book a group visit, please take a look at our availability on the calendar below. Slots with a cross through them are already booked. Once you have chosen a date, please click here to fill out a booking enquiry form and a member of the education team will get back to you.
